Vampires of Emory Haven
Vampires are undead supernatural beings born from humans who have consumed the blood of a vampire upon being nearly drained of blood themselves. Reborn to a new life, most view this as a curse as their now undead form requires vitality from others to combat the constant and crippling onset of decay. The excruciating ache of thirst forever haunts those that take on the life as a vampire.
Blood is their driving force, the sole thing that will keep their undead bodies ticking with life. To drink the energy and life force of another grants them their own eternal existence. While sweet and euphoric like a drug, the satiation doesn't last long, forever leaving them in a limbo of ravenous hunger for survival. Those that don't satisfy this craving or have lost enough blood themselves, soon become ravenous and erratic. The once steady tick of the clock slows with each passing moment. If left unsatiated long enough, their bodies will outwardly start to decay and wither. Their already pale skin only turns even more dull and gray as wrinkles form across the once smooth surface. Shortly afterwards, the muscles begin to diminish as the blood slows within their veins, leaving sunken cheekbones and small patches of rotten flesh throughout their bodies. This makes it exceptionally hard for the afflicted vampire to blend in with that of the living, and is extremely painful as well. A fog will cloud their minds as hunger and bloodlust becomes the only known instinct left, pushing all memories and fibers of morality away. If still left neglected, the decaying flesh will overcome their bodies, leaving them unable to move and soon the hands of time stops ticking on the clock of immortal life.
Creatures of the night, or so they have been labeled is rather true to the tale. Vampires have exceptional vision in the dark and prefer it much more than light, both artificial and natural. With their bodies running at a much lower temperature than most, they also tend to prefer their surroundings to be a few degrees below the average persons. Thus, the underground tunnels within the small town have proven to be the best safe haven for the vampires to flourish and survive. The winding tunnels provide refuge for all those of the undead.
Though they have been known to stay in the shadows, vampires are able to walk freely during the day, doing their best to blend in among the unknowing natural world to ensure their survival. While the sun can be an irritant to vampires, it won't cause any immediate serious damage. However, a vampire’s senses are heightened, causing the light to be much brighter to them than how most normal people experience it. This over-stimulation can cause excruciating headaches and pain, making the vampire weak if they stay out in the sun too long without some form of protection. Being undead, their skin is also susceptible to burns. The sun can also accelerate the decaying process of their bodies, causing irritated patches and itchiness on any exposed skin, therefore high SPF sunscreen or longer clothing is needed to fight off the harsh rays.
Each vampire's thirst is strong, with a compelling craving that can challenge their ability to be rational and cause their judgment to be questionable when they need to feed. However, as a species, vampires possess a strong natural instinct to avoid being discovered for what they are and risk their next meal.

Strengths and skills found in Vampires
- Self-Sustaining: The only thing a vampire needs to stay alive is blood. Their decaying shells do not need food, drink, or sleep to sustain themselves. Alcohol or drugs consumed “normally” does nothing for a vampire. Though, if they wish to feel these effects they may do so by feeding from a human affected by these substances. These effects are short lived and highly diluted through the victim's blood. Otherwise, partaking in some of these mundane tasks helps keep up the charade.
- Dazed Prey: When a vampire feeds on their prey they have the ability to release a small dose of toxins into the target's bloodstream, laced within the vampire’s saliva. This rush to the body can act almost like a narcotic, placing the victim into a drugged like state. This can cause a multitude of symptoms to the person such as; slurred speech, dizziness, unconsciousness, impaired coordination, nausea, confusion, memory loss, and a dream-like feeling. Unless the Vampire is maddened by a frenzy, they are able to produce these venom-like toxins at will, so a practiced vampire could chose when they might sedate their prey.
- Heightened Senses: Vampires are exceptionally good at seeing in the dark even discerning colors within the pitch black of night. While hunting, their hearing is also magnified so as to better detect where their prey lie.
- Connectivity: While the curse looms over like a dark cloud, it also brings a sense of closeness to those that share the breath of immortal life. Clans are often formed as they feel an overwhelming desire to protect and congregate with those that suffer alongside them.
- Accelerated Healing: While the blood that runs within their veins is often looked at as a curse, it is the very thing that heals them the most. Vampire blood, when consumed, rapidly speeds up the healing process. Caution is advised, though, as this drains the energy of the other vampire involved as well. The more severe the injury the more blood a vampire will need to fully heal. They cannot heal major wounds or toxins alone.
Weaknesses and Restrictions found in Vampires
- The Curse: Hunger is the card they have been dealt and blood is the food they must consume to survive. This craving and need is within every vampire’s core, their soul sustenance in life and overbearing weight. They must feed or they will quickly perish and rot away to nothing.
- Decay: Once the shell of their body begins to decay, their supernatural abilities tend to fade along with their pristine looks. The longer they go without blood, or the longer they stay in the sun without protection, the more this decay and rot sets in.
- Silver: Depending on the amount, and how it is used, determines the effect it has on the vampire. Touching it can cause a burning sensation. Consuming silver can bring severe illness, vomiting of blood, and even possible death. If silver enters the bloodstream it can become lethal very quickly and much harder to remove. Typically, this does not heal naturally, as the silver in the blood prevents any mending. Magic will need to be performed either through essence or crafting to heal a vampire afflicted by silver.
- Light: Both artificial and natural light can cause great pain to a vampire, leaving them in a weakened state. UV light can also accelerate the decaying process of their bodies, causing irritated patches and itchiness to form along their skin.
- Frenzied Bloodlust: When a vampire is driven to the point of not being able to control the need for blood they go into a frenzy, meaning they have waited too long before feeding. This puts them in a dangerous violate state. A vampire driven to bloodlust will attempt to feed on anything in its path. There are no coherent thoughts, memories or rationalizations during this time. After the vampire feeds, the Frenzy begins to subside, improving incrementally with the amount of blood they consume.
Note: Children can not exist as vampires because the curse blood will not sustain a prepubescent body. (This means that all vampire characters submitted should be aged 18 and over)
